Island Communities - Summerside
Summerside became a city in 1995 although it has been around much longer than that. The Globe and Mail has rated Summerside as one of the top 5 fastest growing cities in Canada. The West End Rejuvenation Project, including a boardwalk, as well as ongoing private projects have helped to repopularized the waterfront. The city now claims a new Prince County Hospital as well as a Wellness Centre including a new competition class swimming pool. Summerside is home to a French school and Community Centre. The city is also home to many of the most popular franchises.
The city of Summerside plays host to many regional, national and international events. A Hydroplane Regatta, the International Highland Gathering and the Canadian National Rally for the Harley Owner's Group are a few of the recent events that Summerside was proud to host. Summerside is the site of the College of Piping and Holland College, offering skills training.
The local Summerside job market gets a boost from the growing aerospace industry which makes its home in Slemon Park the former air base CFB Summerside. There is plenty of real estate available at reasonable prices to start or relocate businesses to the area. As well there is a well-educated workforce available. The city has allocated 596 acres of land for industrial development and has power, water and sewage to meet the needs. The city boasts a year-round port.
The Summerside motto "the only thing we overlook is the water" is at work!
